The
colonial house dates from 1822 and was constructed by Mr. José
Mauricio Herrera, an infantry military who was sent to Cajamarca
to guard the northern front of the Peruvian Republic. The architecture
is Spanish with local details from Cajamarca like the big entrance
patio adorned by a fountain made of stone from the zone and surrounded
by colourful gardens with characteristic designs from the Andes.

The
2-story building was made of mould from the Andes with 12 eucalyptus
wooden columns supporting the match-boarded corridor and the
handrail made of 217 shaped bars, which lead to the rooms.
The front part of the house with an astonishing white portal
is characteristic from this epoch, which frames the big entrance
door made of Oregon pine.
Walls with a thickness up to 80 cm turn the saloon and dining
room into cosy and magnificent places.

The second-story rooms count with solid balconies, which face
the gardens. This together with the longitudinal and supporting
roof logs form a part of the decoration. For the architecture
and cultural lovers, this building is a real museum.
